![]() Simone’s grandmother, CiCi, is who I want in my life every day and who I want to be as a grandmother. (I suspected that as I read, so I don’t believe it’s a spoiler.) That negative, however, leads to the positive and happy sequence of events that brings them together. Our young protagonists, Simone and Reed, physically survive and, not surprisingly, carry the emotional scars into adulthood.Īn interesting twist, which I won’t spoil here, keeps it real for them as young adults. ![]() In Shelter in Place, Roberts tackles the difficult subject of mass shooting, in this case, in a shopping mall. As a hopeless romantic, I watch more of the Hallmark Channel’s romance movies than Movies and Mysteries shows but have watched both channels. Instead, what I discovered was more like a happy marriage of a Hallmark Channel Romance and Hallmark Channel Movies and Mysteries story. I think I thought they were a modern Harlequin romance (if anyone remembers those). I’m not sure how I came to believe that her books were not to my taste. This book, Shelter in Place, and the author proved wrong my misconceptions about Nora Roberts’ work, at least in this book.
